(<DefinedTermFr>immeuble d’habitation</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881100" lims:id="881100" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>business premises</DefinedTermEn> means a commercial building or an office complex; (<DefinedTermFr>entreprise commerciale</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881101" lims:id="881101" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>commercial building</DefinedTermEn> means an office building, hotel or multiple use building that</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881102" lims:id="881102"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>has multiple occupancy,</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881103" lims:id="881103"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>is four or more storeys in height, and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881104" lims:id="881104"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>is not primarily used as an apartment building; (<DefinedTermFr>immeuble commercial</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Paragraph></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881105" lims:id="881105" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>letter chute</DefinedTermEn> means an enclosed rectangular shaped metal tube extending through each storey of a building in a continuous vertical line leading directly to a mail dispatching facility at the bottom of the tube; (<DefinedTermFr>couloir aux lettres</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881106" lims:id="881106" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>local postmaster</DefinedTermEn> in respect of a building, means the employee of the Corporation who is in charge of the postal area in which the building is located; (<DefinedTermFr>maître de poste local</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881107" lims:id="881107" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>mail box</DefinedTermEn> means a privately owned mail receiving facility designed for indoor or outdoor use in an urban area; (<DefinedTermFr>boîte aux lettres</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881108" lims:id="881108" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>mail box assembly</DefinedTermEn> means a privately owned group of mail boxes in an apartment building or office complex designed for the reception of the mail of all occupants of the building or complex and so constructed that each owner or tenant has an individual compartment that is capable of being kept locked; (<DefinedTermFr>batterie de boîtes aux lettres</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881109" lims:id="881109" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>mail dispatching facility</DefinedTermEn> means a receptacle or room designed for the reception of mailable matter that is to be collected by a post office representative for transmission by post; (<DefinedTermFr>installation de dépôt de courrier</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881110" lims:id="881110" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>mail receiving facility</DefinedTermEn> means a receptacle designed for the receipt of mail; (<DefinedTermFr>installation de réception de courrier</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881111" lims:id="881111" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>mail room</DefinedTermEn> means a room designed for the receipt or dispatch of mail; (<DefinedTermFr>salle de courrier</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881112" lims:id="881112" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>office complex</DefinedTermEn> means a building that is</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881113" lims:id="881113"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>used for offices, or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881114" lims:id="881114"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>used for offices and some other purpose</Text></Paragraph><ContinuedDefinition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881115" lims:id="881115"><Text>and contains at least three offices; (<DefinedTermFr>ensemble de bureaux</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></ContinuedDefinition></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881116" lims:id="881116" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>parcel compartment assembly</DefinedTermEn> means all parcel compartment units installed inside or outside an apartment building or office complex; (<DefinedTermFr>batterie de casiers à colis</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881117" lims:id="881117" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>parcel compartment unit</DefinedTermEn> means a cabinet designed for the reception of mail having individual storage compartments that are capable of being kept locked; (<DefinedTermFr>casier à colis</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881118" lims:id="881118" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>post office representative</DefinedTermEn> means an employee of the Corporation, a mail contractor, an employee or agent of a mail contractor and any other person authorized by the Corporation to perform a function on behalf of the Corporation; (<DefinedTermFr>représentant des postes</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881119" lims:id="881119" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>recognized representative of an addressee</DefinedTermEn> means the person at the addressee’s residence or place of business who usually receives the addressee’s mail or has written authority from the addressee to receive the addressee’s mail; (<DefinedTermFr>représentant reconnu du destinataire</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><Definition lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881120" lims:id="881120" generate-in-text="no"><Text><DefinedTermEn>rural mail box</DefinedTermEn> means a privately owned mail receiving facility and mail dispatching facility designed for outdoor use in a rural area. (<DefinedTermFr>boîte aux lettres rurale</DefinedTermFr>)</Text></Definition><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881122" lims:id="881122">SOR/2008-285, s. 6(F); SOR/2014-259, s. 1</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881123" lims:id="881123" level="1"><Label>PART I</Label><TitleText>General</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881124" lims:id="881124"><Label>3</Label><Text>The Corporation may install, erect or relocate or cause to be installed, erected or relocated in any public place, including a public roadway, any receptacle or device to be used for the collection, delivery or storage of mail.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881125" lims:id="881125"><Label>4</Label><Text>No person shall relocate or remove any receptacle or device referred to in section 3 without prior authorization by the Corporation.</Text></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881126" lims:id="881126" level="1"><Label>PART II</Label><TitleText>Private Urban Mail Dispatching Facilities</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:lastAmendedDate="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881127" lims:id="881127"><Label>5</Label><Text>The Corporation may authorize the collection of mailable matter in a commercial building where</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881128" lims:id="881128"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>the building has a daily volume of mailable matter to be collected that is sufficient to justify the regular collection of mailable matter; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881129" lims:id="881129"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>the mail dispatching facility and the letter chute, if any, are constructed and installed at no expense to the Corporation and in accordance with the specifications for such facility and chute set out in Schedule I.</Text></Paragraph><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881131" lims:id="881131">SOR/2008-285, s. 6(F)</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:lastAmendedDate="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881132" lims:id="881132"><Label>6</Label><Text>The owner of a commercial building may apply to the Corporation to authorize the collection of mailable matter at his building by submitting to the local postmaster an application for that service, in writing, together with particulars of the mail dispatching facility and the letter chute, if any, including</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881133" lims:id="881133"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>a copy of the building plans showing complete details of the proposed letter chute, if any, and indicating accessibility and distances to the mail dispatching facility for the purpose of the collection of mailable matter;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881134" lims:id="881134"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>a description of the building and its use or intended use, the number of floors, the number of tenants, the nature of the businesses of the tenants and any other relevant information requested by the Corporation to enable it to determine the volume of mailable matter likely to be deposited at the facility;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881135" lims:id="881135"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>a map of the area showing the parking space allotted to any mail collection or delivery vehicles and the distance between the nearest dispatching facility and that parking space; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881136" lims:id="881136"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>the proposed effective date of occupancy of the building, if applicable.</Text></Paragraph><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881138" lims:id="881138">SOR/2008-285, s. 6(F)</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881139" lims:id="881139"><Label>7</Label><Text>The Corporation may alter, suspend or terminate a collection service authorized pursuant to section 5 where</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881140" lims:id="881140"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>the building ceases to be a commercial building;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881141" lims:id="881141"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>the collection service can no longer be provided on an economical basis; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881142" lims:id="881142"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>the owner of the building has failed to comply with these Regulations.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881143" lims:id="881143"><Label>8</Label><Text>Where a collection service is provided in respect of a mail dispatching facility, the owner of the building in which the facility is located shall cause the notice referred to in paragraph 1(i) of Schedule I to be placed in each notice frame of the mail dispatching facility and letter chute, if any.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881144" lims:id="881144"><Label>9</Label><Text>Where a collection service in respect of a mail dispatching facility is suspended or terminated pursuant to section 7, the owner of the building in which the facility is located shall forthwith cause a notice to be placed in each notice frame of the mail dispatching facility and letter chute, if any, stating that the service has been suspended or terminated.</Text></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881145" lims:id="881145" level="1"><Label>PART III</Label><TitleText>Private Urban Mail Receiving Facilities</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881146" lims:id="881146"><Label>10</Label><Text>Where a mail delivery service is inaugurated or extended to serve an area, delivery shall be effected to buildings in that area, subject to the following conditions:</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881147" lims:id="881147"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>delivery shall be effected to any building, other than an apartment building, in which mail receiving facilities that comply with the requirements of Schedule II have been installed or in respect of which arrangements have been made with the local postmaster for delivery to an addressee or to the recognized representative of an addressee;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881148" lims:id="881148"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>delivery shall be effected to an apartment building if</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881149" lims:id="881149"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>the apartment building has a central office located adjacent to the main entrance of the building to which mail may be delivered for all occupants, or</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881150" lims:id="881150"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>the apartment building is equipped with a mail box assembly constructed and located in accordance with the specifications set out in Schedule III;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881151" lims:id="881151"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>delivery shall be effected to parcel compartment units in an apartment building or office complex if the conditions set out in Schedule IV are complied with;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881152" lims:id="881152"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>subject to paragraph (e), delivery shall be effected to a place of business that has not installed a mail receiving facility that complies with the requirements of Schedule II, if</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881153" lims:id="881153"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>the employee of the Corporation delivering the mail is able to enter the place of business, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881154" lims:id="881154"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>personal delivery of the mail can be made at or near the entrance of the place of business to its addressee or the recognized representative of an addressee;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881155" lims:id="881155"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>delivery shall only be effected to the residence or place of business of an addressee if that residence or place of business is not more than 35 m from a municipal thoroughfare or sidewalk unless delivery was effected to the addressee prior to July 1, 1979, or the addressee erects a mail box that is</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881156" lims:id="881156"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>located on the property where the residence or place of business is located, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881157" lims:id="881157"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>adjacent to the thoroughfare or sidewalk;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881158" lims:id="881158"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>delivery shall not be effected to any building unless it is provided with a suitable path or other means of access from the road or sidewalk that is kept in a safe condition during all seasons of the year and is kept clear of any hostile or threatening animal;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881159" lims:id="881159"><Label>(g)</Label><Text>delivery shall not be effected to any building unless it bears a building number that conforms to the municipal plans at or near the entrance at which the mail receiving facility is installed; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881160" lims:id="881160"><Label>(h)</Label><Text>delivery shall not be effected to any apartment building, commercial building or office complex where the main entrance is kept locked unless a lock provided by the Corporation is installed in such a manner that a post office representative can gain easy access to the building or complex or unless some other satisfactory arrangement has been made for such access with the local postmaster.</Text></Paragraph><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881162" lims:id="881162">SOR/86-105, s. 1(F); SOR/87-567, s. 1(F)</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881163" lims:id="881163"><Label>11</Label><Text>Prior to the inauguration or extension of mail delivery service in any area, the Corporation shall send a notice to householders and the owners of apartment buildings and business premises in the area stating that if provision is not made for the reception of mail in accordance with these Regulations, mail will not be delivered to that address but will be left with the local postmaster to be collected by the addressee thereof.</Text><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881165" lims:id="881165">SOR/86-105, s. 2(F)</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881166" lims:id="881166"><Label>12</Label><Text>Where mail delivery service is provided in any area and</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881167" lims:id="881167"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>any householder or the owner of any apartment building or business premises fails to provide for the reception of mail in accordance with these Regulations, or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881168" lims:id="881168"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>the mail receiving facility or the means of access to it at any private house, apartment building or business premises in that area becomes unsuitable or unsafe for the reception of mail,</Text></Paragraph><ContinuedSectionSubsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881169" lims:id="881169"><Text>the Corporation shall send a notice to the householder or the owner of and each tenant in the apartment building or business premises stating that if provision is not made for the reception of mail in accordance with these Regulations, mail shall not be delivered to that address but shall be left with the local postmaster to be collected by the addressee thereof.</Text></ContinuedSectionSubsection><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881171" lims:id="881171">SOR/86-105, s. 3(F); SOR/2000-199, s. 14(F)</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881172" lims:id="881172"><Label>13</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881173" lims:id="881173"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>Subject to subsection (2), where any householder or the owner of any apartment building or business premises does not make provision for the reception of mail in accordance with these Regulations within the period specified in the notice, mail shall not be delivered to that address but shall be left with the local postmaster to be collected by the addressee thereof.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881174" lims:id="881174"><Label>(2)</Label><Text>In the circumstances referred to in paragraph 12(b) mail delivery service may be continued to the address to which the notice referred to in that section is sent until the termination of the period specified in the notice for rectification of the unsuitable or unsafe mail receiving facility or means of access to it.</Text></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881175" lims:id="881175"><Label>14</Label><Text>In the case of an office complex that contains a mail box assembly and a mail room, where items of mail that are too large to be delivered through a mail box in a mail box assembly or the delivery of which requires that the addressee or the recognized representative of an addressee be contacted personally by the post office representative, those items shall be delivered</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881176" lims:id="881176"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>through a dutch door from the mail room; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881177" lims:id="881177"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>in such other manner as may be authorized by the local postmaster.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881178" lims:id="881178" level="1"><Label>PART IV</Label><TitleText>Rural Mail Boxes</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881179" lims:id="881179"><Label>15</Label><Text>Mail may be delivered by means of deposit in rural mail boxes and mailable matter may be collected from rural mail boxes where the rural mail box is</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881180" lims:id="881180"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>constructed in accordance with the specifications set out in Schedule VI;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881181" lims:id="881181"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>placed outdoors at a location on a rural mail route approved by the local postmaster; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881182" lims:id="881182"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>located, erected and identified as required by section 16.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2011-01-17" lims:lastAmendedDate="2011-01-17" lims:fid="881183" lims:id="881183"><Label>16</Label><Text>A rural mail box shall be</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2011-01-17" lims:fid="881184" lims:id="881184"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>located along the right hand side of the road according to the courier’s line of travel in a position where the courier can reach and service it from his vehicle without impeding pedestrian or vehicular traffic;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2011-01-17" lims:fid="881185" lims:id="881185"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>erected so that</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2011-01-17" lims:fid="881186" lims:id="881186"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>the box is securely attached to a fixed post or cantilever arm,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2011-01-17" lims:fid="881187" lims:id="881187"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>the bottom of the box is approximately 100 cm above the roadway,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2011-01-17" lims:fid="881188" lims:id="881188"><Label>(iii)</Label><Text>the box does not obstruct or obscure other boxes located nearby, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2011-01-17" lims:fid="881189" lims:id="881189"><Label>(iv)</Label><Text>the box allows the ready delivery or collection of mail; and</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2011-01-17" lims:fid="881190" lims:id="881190"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>identified by having the following information printed in permanent lettering not less than 2.5 cm high on the side of the box or on a plate securely attached to the box and placed so as to be visible to the courier as they approach the box while driving on the right-hand side of the road according to their line of travel:</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2011-01-17" lims:fid="881191" lims:id="881191"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>if civic addressing has been implemented in the municipality and the relevant post office, the civic address or the civic address and the boxholder’s name, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2011-01-17" lims:fid="881192" lims:id="881192"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>if civic addressing has not been implemented in the municipality, the boxholder’s name or a specific V)</OriginatingRef><TitleText>Specifications for Letter Chutes and Mail Dispatching Facilities</TitleText></ScheduleFormHeading><RegulationPiece lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881197" lims:id="881197"><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881198" lims:id="881198" level="2"><TitleText>Letter Chutes</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:lastAmendedDate="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881199" lims:id="881199"><Label>1</Label><Text>Every letter chute shall</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881200" lims:id="881200"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>be constructed of rust resisting materials;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881201" lims:id="881201"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>have an interior designed to present a continuous free flowing surface, unencumbered by any bracket or protruding joint that could cause stoppage;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881202" lims:id="881202"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>extend through each storey of the building in a continuous vertical line from the point of its beginning down to a mail dispatching facility;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881203" lims:id="881203"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>be installed in a location where it will be conveniently accessible throughout its entire length for the removal of obstructions and for cleaning purposes;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881204" lims:id="881204"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>be fitted on each storey with a locking device that, when unlocked, will permit free access to all portions of the chute’s interior on that storey;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881205" lims:id="881205"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>have a clear plate glass cover on its front portion sufficiently exposing the interior of the chute to permit easy observance of any obstruction except that the front portion of the chute in the lobby area or main floor of the building may consist of material other than glass if the chute is constructed to permit access to its interior at that point;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881206" lims:id="881206"><Label>(g)</Label><Text>be equipped at each storey above the main floor with a letter slot designed to permit the insertion of letters only;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881207" lims:id="881207"><Label>(h)</Label><Text>be clearly marked with the words “Letters-Lettres” at or near each letter slot; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881208" lims:id="881208"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>be provided with a readily visible, glazed notice frame near the letter slot on each storey capable of containing a notice setting out the hours of collection by a post office representative.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881209" lims:id="881209" level="2"><TitleText>Mail Dispatching Facilities</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:lastAmendedDate="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881210" lims:id="881210"><Label>2</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881211" lims:id="881211"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>A mail dispatching facility that is a receptacle shall</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881212" lims:id="881212"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>be located at the base of a letter chute except as provided in subsection (4);</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881213" lims:id="881213"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>be located as near as possible to the main entrance of the building at a location approved by the Corporation;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881214" lims:id="881214"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>be accessible to the public at least during the business hours of the building in which it is installed;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881215" lims:id="881215"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>be equipped with a door that</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881216" lims:id="881216"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>hangs on side hinges with peened pins and fastened by weld, solder or rivets, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881217" lims:id="881217"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>is fitted with an official letter box lock obtained from the Corporation;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881218" lims:id="881218"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>be equipped on its bottom with a non-flammable elastic cushion or other non-flammable resilient material that is level with the threshold of the door;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881219" lims:id="881219"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>contain hooks suitably located to hold the satchel or receptacle used by the post office representative;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881220" lims:id="881220"><Label>(g)</Label><Text>be installed in such a manner that the bottom of the receptacle is approximately 75 cm from the finished floor and the space between the bottom of the receptacle and the floor is open and unobstructed;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881221" lims:id="881221"><Label>(h)</Label><Text>subject to subsection (2), contain a mailing slot of the standard letter size;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881222" lims:id="881222"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>be clearly marked with the words “Letters-Lettres” at or near the letter slot or with the words “Mail-Courrier” if a large mailing slot is installed; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881223" lims:id="881223"><Label>(j)</Label><Text>have a metal plate or glazed notice frame securely affixed to its door or upper front portion that is capable of containing the notice referred to in paragraph 1(i) of this Schedule.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881224" lims:id="881224"><Label>(2)</Label><Text>In lieu of the standard letter size of opening, a mail dispatching facility may have an opening large enough to accept items of mailable matter larger than letters if</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881225" lims:id="881225"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>the mailing slot conforms to the general size and baffle design of the regular standing mail receptacle used by the Corporation; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881226" lims:id="881226"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>the mail dispatching facility is large enough to accommodate mailable matter in sufficient volume that the facility does not require a greater frequency of clearance than mail dispatching facilities in the surrounding area.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881227" lims:id="881227"><Label>(3)</Label><Text>In addition to a mail dispatching facility at the base of a letter chute another mail dispatching facility may be installed by the owner of the building, in which case that mail dispatching facility shall</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881228" lims:id="881228"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>be located adjacent to the base of the letter chute;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881229" lims:id="881229"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>be large enough to accommodate bundles of mailable matter and bulky mailable matter that cannot be inserted in the mail dispatching facility at the base of the chute in sufficient volume that the facility does not require a greater frequency of clearance than mail dispatching facilities in the surrounding area;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881230" lims:id="881230"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>have a slot for mail that conforms to the general size and baffle design of the regular standing mail dispatching facility used by the Corporation; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881231" lims:id="881231"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>be clearly marked with the words “Mail-Courrier”.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881232" lims:id="881232"><Label>(4)</Label><Text>A separate mail dispatching facility without a letter chute may be installed by the owner of the building if the installation conforms to paragraphs (1)(b) to (j).</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881233" lims:id="881233"><Label>(5)</Label><Text>A mail dispatching facility that is a mail room shall</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881234" lims:id="881234"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>be located at the base of a letter chute except as provided in subsection (6);</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881235" lims:id="881235"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>be designed so that the letter chute will empty into it at a point not less than 110 cm above the floor of the mail room;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881236" lims:id="881236"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>be located on either the main floor or lower floor, at a location approved by the Corporation, where it will be conveniently accessible to a post office representative;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881237" lims:id="881237"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>be large enough to</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881238" lims:id="881238"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>accommodate mailable matter in sufficient volume that the facility does not require a greater frequency of clearance than other mail dispatching facilities in the surrounding area,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881239" lims:id="881239"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>provide adequate working space for post office representatives who may be required to perform functions on behalf of the Corporation therein, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881240" lims:id="881240"><Label>(iii)</Label><Text>accommodate a bag rack and other equipment that may be supplied by the Corporation;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881241" lims:id="881241"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>be provided with adequate lighting;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881242" lims:id="881242"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>have a suitable door that is fitted with a lock obtained from the Corporation;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881243" lims:id="881243"><Label>(g)</Label><Text>contain at least one mailing slot of the type authorized in subsection 2(2) that</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881244" lims:id="881244"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>is conveniently located in the wall but not in the door of the mail room,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881245" lims:id="881245"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>is accessible to the public at least during the business hours of the building in which the facility is located,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881246" lims:id="881246"><Label>(iii)</Label><Text>is large enough to permit the insertion of bundles of mailable matter and bulky mailable matter, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881247" lims:id="881247"><Label>(iv)</Label><Text>conforms to the general size and baffle design of the regular standing mail receptacle of the Corporation;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881248" lims:id="881248"><Label>(h)</Label><Text>be clearly marked with the words “Mail-Courrier”, at or near the mailing slot; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881249" lims:id="881249"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>have a metal plate or glazed notice frame securely affixed to its wall, adjacent to the mailing slot, that is capable of containing the notice referred to in paragraph 1(i) of this Schedule.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881250" lims:id="881250"><Label>(6)</Label><Text>Where a mail dispatching facility that is a mail room cannot be located at the base of a letter chute, the mail room may be situated at another location in the building in which case it shall conform to paragraphs (5)(c) to (i).</Text></Subsection></Section></RegulationPiece><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881252" lims:id="881252">SOR/86-105, s. 4; SOR/87-567, s. 2; SOR/88-438, s. 1(E); SOR/98-558, s. 6(F); SOR/2008-285, ss. 6(F), 7(F)</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Schedule><Schedule lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:lastAmendedDate="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881253" lims:id="881253" spanlanguages="no" bilingual="no"><ScheduleFormHeading lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881254" lims:id="881254"><Label>SCHEDULE II</Label><OriginatingRef>(Paragraph 10(a))</OriginatingRef><TitleText>Requirements for Mail Receiving Facilities in Buildings Other than Apartment Buildings</TitleText></ScheduleFormHeading><RegulationPiece lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881255" lims:id="881255"><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:lastAmendedDate="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881256" lims:id="881256"><Label>1</Label><Text>Every mail box in a building other than an apartment building shall be</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881257" lims:id="881257"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>a box that</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881258" lims:id="881258"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>is fastened securely on or adjacent to the front door,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881259" lims:id="881259"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>is constructed of a sturdy material with an opening sufficiently large to allow a post office representative to insert bulky mailable matter with ease therein, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881260" lims:id="881260"><Label>(iii)</Label><Text>when equipped with a slot, has the slot measuring not less than 13.5 cm by 4 cm and located on or near the top of the box;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881261" lims:id="881261"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>a box that</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881262" lims:id="881262"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>is fastened securely on or adjacent to any entrance door other than the front door or on the building wall,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881263" lims:id="881263"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>is readily accessible to a post office representative,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881264" lims:id="881264"><Label>(iii)</Label><Text>complies with the specifications set out in subparagraphs (a)(ii) and (iii), and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881265" lims:id="881265"><Label>(iv)</Label><Text>is no farther from the street line than is the front door;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881266" lims:id="881266"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>a letter slot cut in the front door or in a panel adjacent to the front door that is</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881267" lims:id="881267"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>not less than 17.5 cm by 4 cm, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881268" lims:id="881268"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>placed not more than 125 cm and not less than 60 cm from the finished floor line; or</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881269" lims:id="881269"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>a letter slot cut in any entrance door other than the front door or in a panel adjacent to any entrance door that</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881270" lims:id="881270"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>is readily accessible to a post office representative,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881271" lims:id="881271"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>is no farther from the street line than is the front door, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881272" lims:id="881272"><Label>(iii)</Label><Text>complies with the specifications set out in subparagraphs (c)(i) and (ii).</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:lastAmendedDate="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881273" lims:id="881273"><Label>2</Label><Text>In the case of a mail receiving facility described in paragraph 1(b) or (d), the number of the building on which the facility is located shall be clearly visible in relation to the facility.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:lastAmendedDate="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881274" lims:id="881274"><Label>3</Label><Text>In an office complex where the mail receiving facility as described in paragraphs 1(a) to (d) is not suitable having regard to the particular characteristics of the office complex, a mail box assembly with or without a mail receiving facility, as may be authorized by the local postmaster, shall be provided.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:lastAmendedDate="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881275" lims:id="881275"><Label>4</Label><Text>A mail box assembly referred to in section 3 shall be constructed and installed in accordance with the specifications set out in Schedule V.</Text></Section></RegulationPiece><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2008-09-05" lims:fid="881277" lims:id="881277">SOR/86-105, s. 5(F); V)</OriginatingRef><TitleText>Specifications for Mail Box Assemblies</TitleText></ScheduleFormHeading><RegulationPiece lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881280" lims:id="881280"><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881281" lims:id="881281"><Label>1</Label><Text>Every mail box assembly shall be located adjacent to the main entrance of the apartment building and be readily accessible to a post office representative.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881282" lims:id="881282"><Label>2</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881283" lims:id="881283"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>Every mail box assembly shall be so constructed that a post office representative, when sorting the mail for that assembly, is not required to reach higher than 170 cm from the finished floor level in order to place mail in the top row of boxes in the assembly or lower than 45 cm from the finished floor level in order to place mail in the bottom row of boxes in the assembly.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881284" lims:id="881284"><Label>(2)</Label><Text>All parts of the boxes of the top and bottom rows must fit within the height requirements set out in subsection (1).</Text></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881285" lims:id="881285"><Label>3</Label><Text>The interior of each mail box in a mail box assembly shall measure</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881286" lims:id="881286"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>at least 35 cm in length; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881287" lims:id="881287"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>at least 7.5 cm each in height and width and</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881288" lims:id="881288"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>in the case where one of those dimensions measures less than 12.5 cm, the other dimension shall measure at least 25 cm, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881289" lims:id="881289"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>in the case where one of those dimensions measures 12.5 cm or more, the other dimension shall measure at least 13.5 cm.</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881290" lims:id="881290"><Label>4</Label><Text>Every mail box assembly shall be constructed and installed in such a manner as to prevent</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881291" lims:id="881291"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>loss or entrapment of mail;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881292" lims:id="881292"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>damage to mail; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881293" lims:id="881293"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>injury to a post office representative.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881294" lims:id="881294"><Label>5</Label><Text>Each box in a mail box assembly shall be equipped with a door through which mail may be obtained and every such door shall be equipped with a lock.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881295" lims:id="881295"><Label>6</Label><Text>Each box in a mail box assembly must have a holder in which the apartment number of the tenant may be placed in such a manner that the number is readily visible to the post office representative who is placing mail in the box.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881296" lims:id="881296"><Label>7</Label><Text>Every mail box assembly shall be constructed so that a post office representative has ready access to the mail boxes in the assembly by means of</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881297" lims:id="881297"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>a master lock on the front of the assembly installed not more than 170 cm or less than 45 cm from the finished floor level;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881298" lims:id="881298"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>an enclosed room at the rear of the assembly having a working space of at least 90 cm in width; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881299" lims:id="881299"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>where there is an open space or public foyer at both the front and rear of the assembly and the means of access described in paragraphs (a) and (b) are not reasonably obtainable, a cupboard type door on the rear of the assembly that</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881300" lims:id="881300"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>when closed, prevents unauthorized entry,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881301" lims:id="881301"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>is constructed of metal,</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881302" lims:id="881302"><Label>(iii)</Label><Text>is hinged so that the hinge or hinge pin cannot be removed from the outside when the doors are closed, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881303" lims:id="881303"><Label>(iv)</Label><Text>has a master lock that is firmly anchored through the entire thickness of the door.</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881304" lims:id="881304"><Label>8</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881305" lims:id="881305"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The master door of access to a mail box assembly shall be fitted with a lock obtained from the Corporation.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881306" lims:id="881306"><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The lock shall be fitted so that, when it is locked, the bolt is engaged in metal to a depth of at least 6 mm.</Text></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881307" lims:id="881307"><Label>9</Label><Text>The installation of the lock referred to in section 8 shall be supervised by the local postmaster who shall retain custody of the key for the lock.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881308" lims:id="881308"><Label>10</Label><Text>Any signalling or communication device or other equipment with a function not related to mail delivery that is installed in conjunction with a mail box assembly shall not permit or require access to the interior of the mail box assembly in order to use or maintain the device or equipment.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881309" lims:id="881309"><Label>11</Label><Text><Repealed>[Repealed, SOR/2010-288, s. 5]</Repealed></Text></Section></RegulationPiece><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881311" lims:id="881311">SOR/91-626, s. 1; SOR/2010-288, ss. 2 to 5; SOR/2014-259, ss. 2, 3</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Schedule><Schedule lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881312" lims:id="881312" spanlanguages="no" bilingual="no"><ScheduleFormHeading lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881313" lims:id="881313"><Label>SCHEDULE IV</Label><OriginatingRef>(Paragraph 10(c))</OriginatingRef><TitleText>Conditions and Specifications for Parcel Compartment Assemblies</TitleText></ScheduleFormHeading><RegulationPiece lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881314" lims:id="881314"><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881315" lims:id="881315"><Label>1</Label><Text>Mail shall be delivered to a parcel compartment assembly if</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881316" lims:id="881316"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>the normal method of delivery of mail at that apartment building or office complex is to a mail box assembly;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881317" lims:id="881317"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>the local postmaster has approved the delivery of mail to the assembly;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881318" lims:id="881318"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>the assembly is readily accessible to the occupants of the building and to post office representatives;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881319" lims:id="881319"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>each parcel compartment unit is safe and secure;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881320" lims:id="881320"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>each parcel compartment unit is constructed so as not to cause damage to mail or injury to persons using it;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881321" lims:id="881321"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>the interior dimensions of each individual storage compartment are not less than 7.5 cm by 25 cm by 35 cm;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881322" lims:id="881322"><Label>(g)</Label><Text>each parcel compartment unit is constructed so as to allow the installation of the lock mechanism and key referred to in subsection 3(1) of this Schedule in each individual storage compartment;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881323" lims:id="881323"><Label>(h)</Label><Text>the bottom row of individual storage compartments is not less than 38 cm from the finished floor level; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881324" lims:id="881324"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>the assembly has a return slot that permits keys to be deposited securely after a parcel has been retrieved from an individual storage compartment.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881325" lims:id="881325"><Label>2</Label><Text>The storage compartments of a parcel compartment assembly shall be individually and consecutively numbered.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881326" lims:id="881326"><Label>3</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881327" lims:id="881327"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>The Corporation shall provide a lock mechanism and a key for each individual storage compartment.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881328" lims:id="881328"><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The lock mechanism and key referred to in subsection (1) are the property of the Corporation.</Text></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881329" lims:id="881329"><Label>4</Label><Text>The local postmaster may suspend delivery of mail to a parcel compartment assembly if</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881330" lims:id="881330"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>it is not maintained in a clean state;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881331" lims:id="881331"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>it is in a state of disrepair; or</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881332" lims:id="881332"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>it has become unsafe or unsuitable for the reception of mail.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881333" lims:id="881333"><Label>5</Label><Text>The local postmaster shall, on suspending delivery of mail to a parcel compartment assembly,</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881334" lims:id="881334"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>send a notice of the suspension by registered mail to the owner of the parcel compartment assembly; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881335" lims:id="881335"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>cause a copy of the notice to be placed in each mail box of the mail box assembly of that apartment building or office complex.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:lastAmendedDate="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881336" lims:id="881336"><Label>6</Label><Text>Where, pursuant to section 4, there has been a suspension of delivery of mail to a parcel compartment assembly, delivery of mail to that assembly shall be resumed when the reason for such suspension has been obviated.</Text></Section></RegulationPiece><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2014-11-07" lims:fid="881338" lims:id="881338">SOR/2014-259, ss. 4 to 6</HistoricalNoteSubItem></HistoricalNote></Schedule><Schedule lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881339" lims:id="881339" spanlanguages="no" bilingual="no"><ScheduleFormHeading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881340" lims:id="881340"><Label>SCHEDULE V</Label><OriginatingRef>(Sch. and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881345" lims:id="881345"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>on the main floor level unless a freight or passenger elevator service is available and can be used by post office representatives.</Text></Paragraph></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881346" lims:id="881346"><Label>(2)</Label><Text>Where a mail box assembly is installed with a mail room, the room shall be</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881347" lims:id="881347"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>situated behind the mail box assembly;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881348" lims:id="881348"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>lighted with a brightness equal to not less than 1 klx measured 75 cm above the floor;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881349" lims:id="881349"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>adequately ventilated; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881350" lims:id="881350"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>of a sufficient size to allow</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881351" lims:id="881351"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>a minimum working space 90 cm in width along the length of the mail box assembly, and</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881352" lims:id="881352"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>such additional working space as determined by the local postmaster, where</Text><Clause lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881353" lims:id="881353"><Label>(A)</Label><Text>there is a requirement for the processing or temporary storage of mail within the mail room, or</Text></Clause><Clause lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881354" lims:id="881354"><Label>(B)</Label><Text>the mail receiving facility is approved by the local postmaster as a mail room in accordance with the specifications set out in Schedule I.</Text></Clause></Subparagraph></Paragraph></Subsection></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881355" lims:id="881355"><Label>2</Label><Text>Every mail box assembly shall be constructed in accordance with the specifications set out in sections 2 to 10 of Schedule III subject to such modifications as the circumstances require.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881356" lims:id="881356"><Label>3</Label><Text>Where a mail box assembly is installed without a mail room, a secure space of a size determined by the local postmaster shall, if he so requires, be provided for the temporary storage of mail for the office complex.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881357" lims:id="881357"><Label>4</Label><Text>The secure space referred to in section 3 shall be equipped with a lock obtained from the Corporation and shall be installed within or beside the mail box assembly.</Text></Section><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881358" lims:id="881358"><Label>5</Label><Text>The owner of a mail box assembly that is installed with a mail room shall, at his own expense, cause the assembly and room to be regularly inspected, cleaned, repaired and kept free from defects and obstructions.</Text></Section></RegulationPiece><HistoricalNote><HistoricalNoteSubItem lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881360" lims:id="881360">SOR/86-105, s. 6(F); and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881369" lims:id="881369"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>be sufficiently weatherproof to enable it to withstand the climate in which it is used.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881370" lims:id="881370" level="2"><TitleText>Box Dimensions</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881371" lims:id="881371"><Label>3</Label><Text>The minimum interior dimensions of a rural mail box shall be</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881372" lims:id="881372"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>45 cm in length by 17.5 cm in width by 17.5 cm in height, in the case of a rectangular box; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881373" lims:id="881373"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>45 cm in length by 25 cm in diameter, in the case of a cylindrical box.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881374" lims:id="881374" level="2"><TitleText>Box Opening</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881375" lims:id="881375"><Label>4</Label><Text>Every rural mail box shall be equipped with a door that</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881376" lims:id="881376"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>is located in the front of the box;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881377" lims:id="881377"><Label>(b)</Label><Text>cannot be secured with a lock;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881378" lims:id="881378"><Label>(c)</Label><Text>has a minimum effective opening of</Text><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881379" lims:id="881379"><Label>(i)</Label><Text>17.5 cm in width and 17.5 cm in height, if the opening is rectangular, or</Text></Subparagraph><Subparagraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881380" lims:id="881380"><Label>(ii)</Label><Text>25 cm in diameter, if the opening is round;</Text></Subparagraph></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881381" lims:id="881381"><Label>(d)</Label><Text>is capable of remaining in the open position while mail is being deposited or withdrawn and shall be a tight fit and self-sealing when closed;</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881382" lims:id="881382"><Label>(e)</Label><Text>has a handle, lip, flange or other similar aid for opening it; and</Text></Paragraph><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881383" lims:id="881383"><Label>(f)</Label><Text>is constructed of a material sturdy enough to withstand normal every day handling.</Text></Paragraph></Section><Heading lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881384" lims:id="881384" level="2"><TitleText>Signal Device</TitleText></Heading><Section lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:lastAmendedDate="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881385" lims:id="881385"><Label>5</Label><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881386" lims:id="881386"><Label>(1)</Label><Text>Every rural mail box shall be equipped with a signal device that may be rendered visible above the box and that, when it is so visible, will indicate from a distance, either to the courier or the householder, that mail has been delivered or deposited in the box for pickup.</Text></Subsection><Subsection lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881387" lims:id="881387"><Label>(2)</Label><Text>The signal device referred to in subsection (1) shall be</Text><Paragraph lims:inforce-start-date="2006-03-22" lims:fid="881388" lims:id="881388"><Label>(a)</Label><Text>located on the right hand side when facing the box from the front;
